Cricket songs

October 2, 2010 § Leave a comment

October in New England. Some days we have warm, wet weather that comes up from the Caribbean on the hurricane track. Some days we have cool, dry weather with deep blue skies. Always, beside us on our walks, there is the quiet last-days-of-summer sound of the crickets, a low, companionable sound in the asters and drying grasses. Next month, there will come the sound of sleet and the early snows, rustling in that same grass.
