Portsmouth salt piles

August 23, 2010 § Leave a comment

Huge piles of salt are stockpiled on the waterfront in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, for use on icy roads in the winter. Today, these piles are covered with pieces of plastic, but when I photographed them sometime in the 1980s, they were still open to the air and had wonderful textures.
