The lake writes

August 6, 2010 § Leave a comment

The lake writes in reeds and water lilies,

erasing, writing over, a scripture

set down on waves and hard to read.

The lake writes in ducks—

flicker of fast wingtips

seen on dark water.

It writes not birds as species,

but the idea, the outline,

which takes millennia to say.

It writes for no one.

It’s why we come here.
